(Romans 13:8) Let no debt remain outstanding, except the continuing debt to love one another, for he who loves his fellowman has fulfilled the law.
In my opinion it is one of the best feelings to be done paying off your debts. It feels great when you finish paying off school loans, car payments or house payments knowing that your debt is no longer outstanding but it has been paid in full.
And although Paul tells us to pay all of our debts in full he also tells us that there is one debt that should never cease to be paid- the debt of love. Paul tells us that we should never stop loving each other. Love is a debt that we owe each other, it knows no end, it knows no limitations, it knows no gender or race, and it has no time table. Paul tells us to love each other constantly because when we do we fulfill what God has commanded us in his law- to love our neighbor. When we love each other we obey God’s commands because we would never do something to harm each other.
And why do we love each other? Why should we show love to those who don’t love us? Because Jesus loved us! He loved us when we didn’t love him! He paid our debt of sin when he died on the cross and rose from the grave. His love knew no barriers. He didn’t care what we had done in our past or what we are going to do in our future but he loved us so much he died for us. Jesus has paid our debt in full. And because Jesus’ love for us never ceases our debt of love to each other will never end until we leave this earth and go to heaven when we will love each other perfectly because Jesus loved us perfectly!
Continuing to show love, just like you are, because Jesus showed love to us,
